Building a subscriber list

One of the bigger issues of e-newsletter marketing is building a subscription list. Here are some tips for building a quality list keeping within the spam rules.

1. The first thing to do is to check out the simple list here of who you can and can’t email. This is very straight forward and essential reading.

2. Whenever you meet a possible client ask them if they’d like to receive your newsletter. Reminding them they can can unsubscribe in one click. If they agree ask them for their business card and to write ‘newsletter’ on the back of the card. For those who don’t have a business card, ask the to fill in a simple form with their email address and a tick box which opts them into receiving the newsletters. This also helps to provide a professional and organised business.

3. Ensure your newsletter is going to provide them with more information on your area of expertise in addition to what is already on your website.

4. An online form on your website is essential. The code to add to your website is available through WizontheWeb once you create a subscriber list – this is not rocket science and is VERY easy to add to your existing website. When someone fills in the form on your website they are then automatically added to the list which you can view through WizontheWeb.

5. The website should make it clear and easy for people to unsubscribe – many people don’t subscribe to newsletters because they’re worried they can never stop it.

6. Ensure the form requests minimal information, the minimum being their name and email address.

7. You may want to make a compelling offer; Your newsletter may contain offers only available to subscribers.

This list is by no means complete but will hopefully get you on the road to building your list.
